I love me some Ridley Scott and I love me some Monopoly, but why do I have a sinking feeling in my gut about what happens when the two of them collide?
According to Variety, Ridley Scott will direct Universal Pictures’ big screen version of Hasbro’s Monopoly board game from a script by Pamela Pettler.
Pettler has penned “Monster House,” “The Corpse Bride” and “9," which Tim Burton and “Wanted"-helmer Timur Bekmambetov are producing. Scott, who recently helmed Warner Bros.’ ”Body of Lies” has long been attached to the project. He will produce with Hasbro topper Brian Goldner.
“Monopoly" is set up at Universal Pictures, which has a first-look deal with Hasbro to develop movies based on the company’s line of toys. Those include “Ouija,” which Platinum Dunes is developing, and “Battleship.”
Hasbro jumped into the adaptation game after successfully turning its “Transformers” toys into a franchise at DreamWorks and Paramount. Hasbro also has “G.I. Joe” out in August.
I guess this could be cool. But, ya know what would be really cool? “Ridley Scott’s My Marvel Heroes Monopoly!” Now that’d be awesome. Seeing little pewter versions of Spidey and Captain America stock up on the houses and hotels while Thor waits to get out of jail. I imagine Hulk as the banker. I want that movie.
